The Different One (2020)

Author: Jarosław Murawski
A dream story about a completely different day and the peculiarities of each of us.

How's your hair? Do you do sports or play theater? You are doing both, and you also excel in math? Or in something completely different? And stuffed peppers? Do you like them? Everybody is different. And sometimes everyone feels like an ugly duckling. What if everyone would be the same? Would they look the same, behave the same, think the same, and feel the same? Is that the ideal? Would it be the end of envy, quarrels, and misunderstandings, or would it cause the exact opposite?

Just imagine that this exact thing happens to the hero of our story. When he entered the classroom, he was the one sitting at the spot of his classmates Hannah, Julie, and Dominic. He was also the one standing in front of the class and teaching. This art production is about a day when everything was different, but somehow, all the same speaks of the courage to be yourself and to accept the differences of others. What can be done to make others different again and the world rich and colorful? And that Julie, the classmate who is different from other classmates, is herself again?

The playful and philosophical text was written especially for the Bratislava Puppet Theater by the well-known Polish playwright Jarosław Murawski.

The creation of the production was supported by the FPU from Public Sources.

"Keď som vychádzal zo sály Bratislavského bábkového divadla z predstavenia, začul som namrzenú mamičku s malým synčekom s poznámkou: 'Keby som vedela, aké je to predstavenie, bola by som so sebou zobrala aj staršieho syna.'“
