Ne’er-do-well (2019)

Author: Pavol Dobšinský/kolektív/Kateřina Schwarzová
Adventurous puppet classics about a hidden hero.

Who is Ne’er-do-well? The ugly duckling among people and among Slovaks too. Ne’er-do-well is a famous traditional story about a lazy man with dirty face and his transformation into “the bravest knight”, written by Pavol Dobšinský. How come that the shame of the family becomes a star in a country who saves a princess from the wizard’s infinite power? Ne’er-do-well is a mysterious character – or perhaps not at all? Maybe he just did not believe in himself and neither did others. It is an adventurous puppet production about the image you create about yourself and other people, reflecting the topics of self-esteem, pride and crooked mirrors.;

A Slovak classic that has been taken up by the creators of the legendary Czech theater Buchty a Loutky. Unconventionally and with humor, they combined two versions of this story.

They wrote about us

"Popolvár v réžii českého zoskupenia Buchty a loutky prostredníctvom odvážnej textovej aktualizácie, humorných vložiek a hravých režijných nápadov ponúka jednoduchý, no zároveň dobrý príklad toho, ako si poradiť so slovenskou klasikou a pretaviť ju do vkusnej javiskovej podoby."
